FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BC AUTHOR WINS ACCLAIM FROM U.S. MAGAZINE
(Duncan, BC, June 3, 2004) - British Columbia author and self-publishing advocate,
Suzanne Anderson, was recognized this week by Writer's Digest magazine. Her book won an Honorable
Mention in the 11th Annual Writer's Digest International Self-Published Book Awards. Anderson's
book, Self Publishing in Canada: A complete guide to designing, printing and selling your book,
which was published earlier this year, won in the Reference Books Category. The book will be
featured in the August 2004 issue of Writer's Digest magazine. Anderson received a certificate and
a monetary reward.
Anderson will be attending the upcoming Book Expo Canada in Toronto in mid-June, where she
plans to introduce her book to the Ontario bookseller market. Large publishers in the industry
attend this annual trade show and the competition to get a book recognized is fierce. This award
will enable the self-published author to garner more notice in the Canadian publishing
industry.
The National Library of Canada estimates that more than half of all new books published in
Canada are self-published. Based on Statistics Canada figures, this number could be as high as
16,000. The growing trend means more and more writers are turning to the independent method of
publishing in order to get their books in the hands of the reading public. Given today's
technology, it is a valid option that is rapidly gaining popularity in Canada.
Anderson previously self-published in 1997. She is on the board of WAVE Publications
Co-operative on Vancouver Island and is a member of the Independent Publishers Association of
Canada. She conducts workshops on both self-publishing and book marketing at Malaspina College, and
is hoping to expand into Camosun College in Victoria this fall.
Her books are available in stores, and through her website: www.selfpublishing.ca
